What we're working on this month

A page that exists so you don't have to guess.

This is a /now page — borrowed from Derek Sivers. It says, plainly, what the group is focused on right now. We update it once a month. Between updates, what is on the page is what is true; what is missing is on purpose.

This month

Composing the third world

Apexhone joined the family at the start of the month. Most of May has been spent on the work that does not show: tightening the cross-brand identity layer so that members are recognized as one across all three brands, and making sure each brand still keeps its own weather inside. We are also making the rooms a little easier to enter from outside. The group site is gaining a few quiet pages this month — this one, a clearer membership page, an FAQ for first-time readers — without disturbing the parts that are working.

This quarter

From three brands to one household

The thesis for the quarter is simple: a portfolio of three brands is not yet a household. A household is the version where members move between brands the way they move between rooms in a home they have lived in long enough to stop noticing the doors. Most of the work that gets us there is invisible — identity, governance, the slow accumulation of small reasons to stay. None of it makes a launch announcement. We are betting that it makes a difference at the ten-year mark.

Quiet on

What we are deliberately not doing

We are not opening a fourth brand this year. The household is not full yet, and rushing the next one would be the opposite of the thing we are here to do. We are not running paid acquisition on any brand. The kind of reader who fits this house tends to find it through a sentence written carefully somewhere — a letter, an article, a friend. We would rather keep writing well than buy attention. We are not publishing roadmap timelines for individual brand features. We have made that mistake before; the public schedule started to drive the product, instead of the other way around.

The longer view

Annual letters explain the year. This page explains the month.

This page is updated by hand on the first week of each month. If you found this page through a friend or a footer link, welcome — most of our long-term readers have, eventually.
